ABUJA – The Democratic Front (TDF) has reacted to allegations by former President Olusegun Obasanjo against former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, saying the claims have raised fresh questions about the former Vice President’s integrity and democratic credentials.

In a statement jointly signed by its Chairman, Danjuma Muhammad, and Secretary, Wale Adedayo, the group referenced Obasanjo’s allegation that Atiku allegedly offered a ₦5 million bribe to the late former Speaker of the House of Representatives, Ghali Na’Abba, in connection with an alleged impeachment plot.

According to TDF, although the late Ghali Na’Abba is no longer alive to respond to the allegation, the fact that it was made by a former President against his former deputy makes it a matter of public interest deserving attention.

The group noted that this was not the first time Obasanjo had publicly criticised Atiku’s conduct during their time in office.

It further argued that Atiku’s past responses to allegations contained in Obasanjo’s memoir, My Watch, as well as the absence of legal action challenging those claims, have continued to generate public debate.

TDF maintained that the latest allegation has reignited questions surrounding the former Vice President’s political career and public service record.

The group also expressed the view that Obasanjo, having worked closely with Atiku during their administration, is in a position to comment on his former deputy’s leadership and character.

It urged Nigerians to carefully consider the former President’s remarks while assessing political leaders ahead of the 2027 general election.

Editor’s Note: The allegations referenced in this statement remain claims made by the Democratic Front and attributed to former President Olusegun Obasanjo. They have not been independently verified, and Atiku Abubakar has consistently denied allegations of corruption made against him.
