ABUJA – The Democratic Front (TDF) has welcomed what it described as a message of commendation from United States President Donald Trump acknowledging President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s efforts in combating terrorism in Nigeria.
In a statement jointly signed by its Chairman, Danjuma Muhammad, and Secretary, Wale Adedayo, the group said the commendation serves as an affirmation of the Tinubu administration’s determination to improve security and restore peace across the country.
According to the statement, the recognition comes at a time when the Federal Government has intensified efforts to tackle terrorism, banditry and other security threats within Nigeria and the wider West African sub-region.
TDF argued that the development reflects the success of President Tinubu’s diplomatic engagements with the United States, which it said helped strengthen bilateral cooperation on security matters.
The group also claimed that growing military collaboration between Nigeria and the United States, particularly in intelligence sharing and precision operations, has contributed to disrupting terrorist activities around Nigeria’s border communities with Niger, Chad, Cameroon and the Benin Republic.
It further stated that the country’s security agencies have recorded improvements in intelligence gathering and operational effectiveness under the current administration.
According to TDF, the reported commendation from the U.S. President is a recognition of the progress made in the fight against terrorism since President Tinubu assumed office in May 2023.
The group maintained that the development also counters criticisms by some opposition politicians regarding the administration’s handling of insecurity.
TDF urged Nigerians to support ongoing efforts to combat terrorism and avoid politicising national security, stressing that unity and cooperation remain essential in addressing security challenges across the country.
