The Labour Party has congratulated Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva on his re-election for a historic fourth presidential term, using his victory to call on Nigerians to support the party ahead of the 2027 general elections.
In a statement issued on Friday, October 30, 2026, the party described Lula’s victory as a demonstration of the confidence Brazilian voters have in his leadership and the social democratic ideology of his Workers’ Party (PT).
The party noted that both political organisations share ideological similarities, particularly their commitment to social democracy, social justice, economic inclusion and policies that prioritise citizens’ welfare.
According to the Labour Party, Brazil’s political experience offers important lessons for Nigeria as the country prepares for another general election.
It urged Nigerians to draw inspiration from Lula’s electoral victory by supporting Labour Party candidates across elective positions, including the presidency.
The party also pointed to the administration of Abia State Governor Alex Otti as evidence of its capacity to provide people-centred leadership.
It maintained that the governor’s performance in Abia demonstrates the party’s commitment to addressing the needs and aspirations of ordinary Nigerians.
The statement further argued that Nigeria could benefit from a governance approach that prioritises social welfare, equitable development, economic opportunities and justice for citizens.

The Labour Party expressed confidence that its political philosophy provides an alternative for Nigerians seeking a government that places people’s interests at the centre of public administration.
It also encouraged Nigerians to remain confident in the party’s vision as political activities gradually build towards the 2027 elections.
Drawing parallels between Brazil and Nigeria, the party stressed that electoral victories ultimately depend on the willingness of citizens to exercise their democratic rights and determine their political future.
“The Brazilian experience has demonstrated the power of the people to shape their political destiny through the ballot. The same is possible in Nigeria, because People Power is greater than political power,” the statement declared.
The statement was signed by Ken Eluma Asogwa, National Publicity Secretary of the Labour Party.
Lula secured re-election on October 25, 2026, winning 51.79 per cent of valid votes to defeat his opponent, Flávio Bolsonaro, who polled 48.21 per cent, according to Brazil’s electoral authority.
His victory secured an unprecedented fourth presidential term, making him the first person elected four times to Brazil’s presidency.
The Labour Party’s congratulatory message comes as Nigerian political parties begin positioning themselves and mobilising support ahead of the 2027 general elections.
