The Commissioner of Police in Cross River State, CP Ajo Geoffrey Ordue, has directed all Area Commanders and Divisional Police Officers (DPOs) to make their official contact numbers accessible to residents to strengthen community policing and improve responses to security threats.
The directive is aimed at encouraging residents to report crimes, suspicious activities and emerging security concerns promptly, while improving communication between the Police and the communities they serve.
The Command’s spokesperson, ASP Eitokpah Sunday Akata, disclosed this in a statement following the Command’s end-of-month Strategic Officers’ Meeting held on Wednesday, October 28, 2026, at the Police Officers’ Mess, Moore Road, Calabar.
According to the statement, Ordue charged Area Commanders, DPOs and Heads of Departments to strengthen engagement with residents and ensure that police leadership remains accessible to members of the public.
The Commissioner explained that the directive aligns with the community-oriented policing initiative of the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Olatunji Rilwan Disu, which is being implemented across police commands and divisions.
He said stronger communication between police officers and residents would improve the flow of actionable intelligence, build public confidence and support faster intervention during security incidents.
To ensure compliance, the CP directed Area Commanders and DPOs to publicise their official telephone numbers through community meetings, police station noticeboards, town unions, market associations, engagements with community leaders and other public gatherings within their respective areas of responsibility.
He also instructed officers to ensure that the contact details remain updated and accessible, adding that implementation would be monitored through routine supervisory checks.
