šŸ“Kogi West | Media Report
A growing debate over political consistency is gaining momentum in Kogi West, as constituents question what they describe as conflicting standards in the push for continuity in governance.

The conversation was reignited following a public endorsement by former Kogi State Governor, Yahaya Bello, who, on April 19, urged voters in Yagba Federal Constituency to support Hon. Leke Abejide’s bid for a third term in the National Assembly. Bello emphasized that lawmakers need time, stability, and experience to effectively deliver democratic dividends.

The event, attended by Kogi State Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo and Chief of Staff to the President, Femi Gbajabiamila, underscored strong political backing for that position.

However, the call for continuity has sparked criticism, as many constituents point to what they perceive as a contradiction similar support is not being extended to Sunday Karimi, whose performance in under three years has drawn attention across Kogi West.

Rising Questions Over Fairness
Residents and political observers are increasingly asking whether the principle of continuity is being applied selectively.
ā€œIf continuity is essential for development, it should not depend on political alignment,ā€ some constituents argue, noting that inconsistent messaging risks eroding public trust.

Analysts warn that disrupting a performing lawmaker mid-tenure could have broader implications, including stalled projects, weakened legislative influence, and delays in constituency development.

Track Record Driving Support
Supporters of Senator Karimi highlight a range of initiatives executed within a relatively short period:

  1. Educational support through bursaries benefiting thousands of students
Installation of solar-powered boreholes across communities
2.Training of over 5,000 women in entrepreneurship and capacity building
3.Financial empowerment initiatives exceeding ₦160 million
4.Construction of a standard Army base to strengthen security
5.Distribution of agricultural inputs to local farmers
6.Establishment of CBT centres and modern laboratories in Egbe and Koto
These interventions, they argue, reflect measurable progress rather than campaign promises.
    Political Undercurrents and Public Sentiment
Beyond policy debates, there are growing allegations of political maneuvering aimed at shaping public perception against the senator. Some observers suggest that internal divisions may be influencing the narrative.
Political analysts note that such divisions often emerge when performance becomes difficult to contest directly.
A Defining Moment for Kogi West
As the debate intensifies, Kogi West faces a critical decision: whether to prioritize continuity based on performance or shift direction amid competing political interests.
For many, the issue goes beyond politics—it speaks to fairness, consistency, and the long-term development trajectory of the region.
