The Labour Party has commended the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) for correcting what it described as the earlier omission of its candidate from the list of contestants for the forthcoming Enugu North Senatorial District by-election scheduled for June 20, 2026.

The party recalled that when INEC initially released the list of political parties and candidates cleared to participate in the by-elections across the country, neither the Labour Party nor its candidate appeared on the list for the Enugu North Senatorial contest despite fulfilling all constitutional and legal requirements.

According to the party, following engagements with the leadership of the electoral commission, the issue has now been resolved, with INEC officially including the Labour Party and its candidate in the by-election.

The party said it is fully prepared for the poll and remains committed to offering the people of Enugu North credible and people-focused representation in the Senate.

Labour Party also expressed confidence in the leadership of INEC, stating that the commission’s decision to rectify the omission demonstrates a commitment to fairness, justice, and due process.

The party noted that the action has helped reinforce public trust in the electoral process and strengthen confidence in the commission’s responsiveness to legitimate concerns.
It further appreciated its supporters, members, and stakeholders who expressed concern over the initial omission and continued to support the party throughout the process.

As campaigns enter the final stage, the Labour Party wished its candidates participating in the Enugu North, Nasarawa North, and Rivers South-East by-elections success at the polls, expressing hope that the elections will contribute to strengthening Nigeria’s democracy and deepen public confidence in the electoral system.

The statement was signed by the National Publicity Secretary of the Labour Party, Ken Eluma Asogwa, on June 13, 2026.
