Retired Major General Rabe Abubakar, a former Director of Defence Information, has reportedly been killed while in captivity after being abducted by bandits in Katsina State.

The Katsina State Commissioner for Internal Security and Home Affairs, Dr. Nasir Mu’azu Danmusa, confirmed the development on Saturday, saying security authorities had received intelligence indicating that the retired military officer was killed by his abductors.

According to Danmusa, efforts are ongoing to recover the remains of the late general, as security operatives have yet to locate his body.

“Security authorities had received information indicating that the retired military officer was killed by his abductors,” the commissioner stated.

Major General Abubakar and his wife were kidnapped by armed bandits along the Matazu axis of Katsina State on May 30 while travelling through the area.

His abduction had sparked widespread concern across the country, with both the Katsina State Government and security agencies expressing hope that he would be rescued alive.

Security operations are continuing, while authorities are expected to provide further details as investigations progress.
