ABUJA – The Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lieutenant General Olufemi Oluyede, has approved the appointment and redeployment of senior military officers to lead newly established Nigerian Army divisions and brigades as part of efforts to strengthen the country’s security architecture and improve operational effectiveness.
Among the appointments, Major General EF Oyinlola has been posted to Headquarters 6 Division, Jalingo, as the General Officer Commanding (GOC).
Major General Moses Gara has been redeployed from the Headquarters Joint Task Force Operation WHIRL STROKE (OPWS) to Headquarters 5 Division, Makurdi, where he will serve as both the General Officer Commanding and Commander of Joint Task Force Operation WHIRL STROKE.
Also, Major General Auwalu Mahmuda has been moved from the Army Headquarters Directorate of Inspection and Compliance to Headquarters 2 Division, Ibadan, as the General Officer Commanding.
To further strengthen the operational capacity of the newly established divisions, the Nigerian Army has also activated three additional brigades.
Brigadier General AO Odubiyi has been appointed Commander of the newly established Headquarters 11 Brigade, Gboko, after serving at the Army Headquarters Operations Centre.
Brigadier General AM Haruna has been redeployed from the Nigerian Army Armour School to command Headquarters 29 Brigade, Kainji, while Brigadier General RM Aminu has been posted from the National Defence College to lead Headquarters 10 Brigade, Lafia.
Congratulating the newly appointed commanders, the Chief of Army Staff urged them to provide visionary leadership, sustain operational momentum and uphold the highest standards of professionalism, discipline and mission effectiveness in carrying out their responsibilities.
Lieutenant General Oluyede reaffirmed the Nigerian Army’s commitment to protecting Nigeria’s sovereignty and territorial integrity, safeguarding the lives and property of law-abiding citizens, and supporting efforts to achieve lasting peace and national security.
He also expressed appreciation to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, for his continued support and strategic investment in expanding the Nigerian Army’s operational capabilities.
According to the Army Chief, the creation of the additional divisions marks a significant milestone in the ongoing transformation of the Nigerian Army and reflects the Federal Government’s commitment to strengthening Nigeria’s defence system.
He noted that the expanded force structure would enhance command and control, improve operational coordination, strengthen border security, enable faster deployment of troops and resources, and boost the Army’s capacity to respond swiftly to emerging security threats across the country.
The COAS expressed confidence that the new divisions and brigades would further enhance joint military operations, improve collaboration with other security agencies, reinforce national stability and contribute to the restoration of lasting peace and security across Nigeria.
