Human rights advocate Deji Adeyanju, Esq. has called for the immediate and unconditional release of activists, including Comrade Hassan Taiwo Soweto, who were arrested during recent protests in Lagos related to demolition activities.
In a statement, Adeyanju condemned the arrests, describing the targeting of vulnerable citizens and the criminalization of poverty as unacceptable.

He emphasised that it is not a crime to advocate for the rights of the poor and oppressed, and that individuals standing up for justice and human dignity should not face punishment.

Adeyanju further stressed the importance of activism in any democratic society, noting that citizens who raise their voices for fairness and accountability must be able to do so without fear of violence or detention.

He urged authorities to respect democratic principles by releasing Comrade Soweto and all others wrongfully detained, and called for an end to punitive actions against people demanding their rights.

Deji Adeyanju, Esq., remains a vocal advocate for human rights and civic engagement, continuing to champion social justice and accountability in Nigeria.
