ABUJA – The Tinubu Stakeholders Forum (TSF) has dismissed allegations by the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu makes “fake promises” to Nigerian athletes, insisting that available evidence shows the administration has fulfilled several commitments made to sportsmen and women.
In a statement jointly signed by its Chairman, Ahmad Sajoh, and Secretary, Danjuma Sada, the forum described the allegation as misleading and inconsistent with publicly verifiable facts.
According to the group, the Tinubu administration has established a track record of implementing reward packages announced for outstanding Nigerian athletes.
TSF noted that after the Super Eagles’ performance at the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON), President Tinubu approved a reward package that included national honours, houses and land allocations for members of the team.
The forum said beneficiaries have since received title documents and certificates for the properties, demonstrating that key aspects of the presidential promise have already been fulfilled.
It also pointed to members of Nigeria’s women’s basketball team, D’Tigress, who have reportedly received title documents for their promised houses alongside their national honours.
The group added that the National Sports Commission has confirmed that the cash component of the reward packages is being processed through the appropriate government financial institutions.
TSF further recalled that following the Super Falcons’ triumph at the 2025 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON), President Tinubu approved what it described as one of the most generous reward packages ever announced for a Nigerian national team, including national honours, cash rewards and three-bedroom apartments.
According to the forum, the Federal Government has confirmed that implementation of the package is ongoing through the relevant agencies.
The group argued that these developments contradict the NDC’s claim that the President merely makes promises without fulfilling them.
While acknowledging that athletes deserve timely delivery of every component of the announced rewards, TSF urged the relevant government agencies to conclude any outstanding aspects of the implementation process without unnecessary delay.
The forum also maintained that the current administration has made greater progress in rewarding deserving athletes than previous governments, noting that similar promises made under past administrations remained unfulfilled for years.
It urged Nigerians to assess the issue based on verifiable facts rather than political narratives, insisting that the implementation already recorded demonstrates the administration’s commitment to supporting Nigerian athletes.
