The Diplomatic Correspondents’ Association of Nigeria has announced plans to honour distinguished individuals and institutions for their contributions to global peace at its upcoming international conference in Abuja.
The high-level event, scheduled for May 20, 2026, at the Rotunda Hall of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, will centre on the theme: “Information Warfare (FIMI): Strengthening Global Security, Trade and Investment Through Collaborative Truth Role of Diplomacy, Intelligence, and Media.”
Chairman of DICAN, Idehai Frederick, said the conference is designed to go beyond traditional diplomacy by addressing the growing threat of information manipulation to global stability and economic growth.
He warned that the increasing “weaponization of information” poses significant risks to international commerce, noting that Foreign Information Manipulation and Interference (FIMI) can undermine investor confidence, disrupt supply chains, and weaken national economies.
According to him, the conference will promote a framework of “collaborative truth” as a strategy to protect global trade and investment in an era of digital and hybrid threats.
The summit is expected to attract top diplomatic and international stakeholders, including the United States Ambassador, the Chinese Ambassador, and the Ambassador of the European Union to Nigeria and ECOWAS, alongside representatives from over 100 diplomatic missions.
Participants from the intelligence community, trade and investment sectors, and the media are also expected to attend, with discussions focused on strengthening cooperation to counter disinformation and ensure global market stability.

Analysts say the conference comes at a critical time when geopolitical tensions are increasingly playing out in the information space, affecting both security and economic outcomes.
By aligning diplomacy, intelligence, and media, the summit aims to foster a more resilient global environment where investment can thrive despite rising international uncertainties.
Observers also note that the initiative positions Nigeria as an emerging hub for global dialogue on security-conscious investment, transparency, and strategic communication.
