Chinese President Xi Jinping will attend the 18th BRICS Summit in New Delhi, India, scheduled for September 12 and 13, following an invitation from Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
A Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson announced Xi’s participation on Thursday, confirming that the Chinese leader will join other heads of government and senior officials at the summit.
Nigeria will also be represented at the high-level gathering, with Vice President Kashim Shettima arriving in New Delhi ahead of the summit.
Shettima’s participation places Nigeria alongside other emerging economies and partner countries at a major international platform expected to focus on cooperation, economic development, trade, investment and global issues.
The 18th BRICS Summit comes as the bloc continues to expand its engagement and strengthen cooperation among member states and partner countries.
With Xi Jinping and other world leaders expected in New Delhi, attention will be focused on the outcomes of the summit and the opportunities it could create for deeper economic and diplomatic cooperation.
