Abuja, FCT — January 26, 2026
The All Progressives Congress (APC) has dismissed as unfounded growing media speculation suggesting a possible replacement of Vice President Kashim Shettima as President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s running mate ahead of the 2027 general elections.

In a press statement issued on Sunday, the party described the reports as “purely speculative, untrue, and utterly baseless,” urging the media to refrain from promoting rumours capable of creating unnecessary tension in the polity.

According to the APC, the speculation, which initially emerged subtly, has recently escalated with the circulation of names of individuals allegedly being considered as replacements for the Vice President.

The party warned media organisations against providing platforms for what it termed rumour-peddlers and unverifiable sources, noting that such narratives are intended to sow discord and confusion.

The APC further stressed that political activities remain prohibited under existing laws and electoral regulations, adding that the party is not engaged in any succession discussions at this time.

It said its immediate focus remains on supporting President Tinubu and Vice President Shettima in the effective delivery of the administration’s Renewed Hope Agenda, which it noted is driving reforms aimed at economic transformation, prosperity, and improved living conditions for Nigerians.

The party also cautioned its ministers, senior government officials, and party leaders against making comments that could fuel speculation, either deliberately or inadvertently.

The APC urged all officials to concentrate on their core responsibilities, contribute to governance, and strengthen public confidence in the leadership of President Tinubu, whom it described as a visionary leader committed to national progress.

The statement was signed by the party’s National Publicity Secretary, Felix Morka.
