The Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Dunoma Umar Ahmed, has described the newly launched book “Fragments of Time: My Foreign Service Years” by Ambassador Eineje Onobu as a powerful reflection of Nigeria’s diplomatic journey and a legacy of service to the nation.
Speaking at the official launch held at the Rotunda of the Ministry on Tuesday, Ahmed said the book goes beyond personal storytelling, capturing critical moments that define Nigeria’s foreign policy engagements over the years.
He noted that Ambassador Onobu’s career exemplifies the core values of the Nigerian Foreign Service, including professionalism, patriotism, resilience, and integrity.

According to him, the memoir provides rare insights into the complexities of diplomacy and Nigeria’s role in global affairs, making it a valuable resource not only for diplomats but also for policymakers, scholars, and the general public.
Ahmed emphasized that the book serves as both a historical record and a guide for younger diplomats, urging them to uphold the high standards set by seasoned professionals in the service.
He added that the reflections come at a crucial time when the world is facing geopolitical shifts, economic uncertainty, and evolving global challenges, stressing that diplomacy remains essential in advancing Nigeria’s national interests.

The Permanent Secretary commended Ambassador Onobu for documenting his experiences, expressing confidence that the book will inspire future generations and strengthen understanding of Nigeria’s foreign engagements.
The event drew members of the diplomatic corps, government officials, and distinguished guests who gathered to celebrate the author’s contributions to Nigeria’s international relations.
