Tinubu Approves Recruitment of 3,252 Verified PTA Teachers into Federal Unity Colleges

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved the recruitment process for 3,252 verified Parent-Teacher Association (PTA) teachers serving in Federal Unity Colleges, in a move aimed at addressing teacher shortages and strengthening the quality of education across the country.
Minister of Education, Dr. Maruf Tunji Alausa, announced the approval, describing it as a major milestone in the Federal Government’s efforts to improve teaching standards and expand the workforce in Federal Unity Colleges and Federal Technical Colleges.
According to the Minister, the approval demonstrates President Tinubu’s commitment to investing in education and recognising the dedication of PTA teachers who have continued to teach Nigerian students despite years of uncertainty over their employment status.
He noted that many of the affected teachers have spent nearly 25 years serving in Federal Unity Colleges and Federal Technical Colleges without being fully integrated into the federal public service.
“This is a President who cares deeply for Nigeria and for the future of our country,” Alausa said.
He explained that priority would be given to the absorption of verified PTA teachers into the mainstream public service after the completion of all statutory procedures.
“The President has approved the recruitment of teachers. Priority will be given to absorbing verified PTA teachers, many of whom have served in our Federal Unity Colleges and Federal Technical Colleges for almost 25 years. This approval provides them with the opportunity to become part of the mainstream public service,” the Minister stated.
Alausa said the recruitment forms part of the education reforms under the Renewed Hope Agenda, adding that it will improve the teacher-to-student ratio while rewarding the commitment of teachers who have faithfully served the nation’s schools.
He disclosed that the recruitment followed a comprehensive verification exercise carried out by an Inter-Ministerial Committee established to screen PTA teachers across Federal Unity Colleges.
The exercise confirmed 3,252 eligible teachers across three categories: Education Officers, Assistant Education Officers and Technical Instructors.
According to the Minister, the regularisation process will continue after all statutory requirements and public service procedures have been completed.
He added that integrating experienced teachers into the federal public service would preserve valuable institutional knowledge, strengthen classroom instruction and improve learning outcomes in Federal Unity Colleges.
Alausa further explained that the recruitment is part of the Federal Government’s broader strategy to reposition Federal Unity Colleges as centres of academic excellence capable of delivering quality academic and technical education.
He reaffirmed the Ministry’s commitment to working with relevant government agencies to conclude the remaining statutory processes required for the final recruitment, in line with public service rules and regulations.
The Minister also thanked President Tinubu for approving the recruitment process, describing the decision as another demonstration of the administration’s commitment to making education a key driver of national development.
According to him, investment in teachers remains essential because the quality of any education system depends largely on the competence, commitment and professionalism of its teachers.
He assured the 3,252 verified PTA teachers that the regularisation exercise would be conducted transparently, fairly and in full compliance with due process.
“This administration is determined to ensure that every child in our Federal Unity Colleges is taught by qualified, motivated and professionally supported teachers.
We will continue to pursue reforms that improve learning outcomes and restore confidence in public education for the benefit of every Nigerian child,” Alausa said.
He reaffirmed the Federal Ministry of Education’s commitment to policies and programmes that strengthen the teaching profession, improve learning outcomes and ensure that students in Federal Unity Colleges receive quality education from competent and dedicated teachers.
