The Lagos State Police Command has detained an Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP), Omotayo Olajide, following a shooting incident in the Nosamu area of Ajegunle that left a little girl dead and another injured.
The incident occurred on Thursday, November 5, 2026, between 9:30 p.m. and 10:00 p.m., during a police operation to contain a violent clash between two rival groups.
The deceased was identified as Omole Taiwo, who was reportedly struck by a bullet alongside another girl during the operation.
In a statement, the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Abimbola Adebisi, said preliminary findings showed that officers were deployed to the area after receiving a distress call over a violent confrontation between two groups identified as the Nosamu Boys and the Alayabiagba Boys.
The rival groups were reportedly fighting over toll collection and were armed with cutlasses and other dangerous weapons.
According to the police, both girls were immediately taken to Ajeromi General Hospital for treatment. One of them was subsequently transferred to the Lagos State University Teaching Hospital (LASUTH), Ikeja, where she later died.
The second victim is receiving medical attention and is reportedly in stable condition.
