Nigeria’s Ambassador to Hungary, Abasi Braimah, has pledged stronger welfare support for Nigerian students at the University of Pécs following a meeting with the leadership of the Nigerian Students’ Union at the Nigerian Embassy in Budapest.
Braimah gave the assurance on Friday, October 30, 2026, when he hosted the newly elected executives of the students’ union alongside officials of the Nigerian Embassy.
The University of Pécs, one of Hungary’s oldest higher institutions with a history spanning more than 200 years, has over 300 Nigerian students.
The student delegation visited the Embassy to formally introduce its new leadership and explore opportunities for stronger collaboration with the Nigerian diplomatic mission.

During the meeting, the student representatives highlighted challenges affecting Nigerian students in Pécs and outlined areas where the Embassy could provide support and assistance.
Responding, Ambassador Braimah assured the students that the Embassy remained committed to supporting their welfare and making their stay in Hungary more comfortable and productive.
He encouraged the student leaders to freely share ideas, recommendations and suggestions that could improve engagement between the Embassy and the Nigerian student community.
The Ambassador also thanked the delegation for the visit and announced that the Embassy would undertake a working visit to the University of Pécs to engage directly with the institution and its Nigerian student population.
The planned visit is expected to provide an opportunity for closer interaction between the Embassy, university authorities and Nigerian students, particularly on issues affecting their welfare and academic experience.
The engagement underscores the importance of sustained diplomatic attention to the welfare and interests of Nigerians studying abroad.
