President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is considering an enhanced welfare package for personnel in Nigeria’s information sector as part of efforts to improve public service delivery and reward professionalism in the civil service.
The Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, disclosed this during the 2026 Civil Service Week celebration held at the Federal Ministry of Information and National Orientation in Abuja.
Speaking while presenting Certificates of Recognition to outstanding staff members, Idris said President Tinubu had directed him to develop practical proposals aimed at improving the welfare of workers in the information sector.
According to the Minister, the President remains committed to rewarding dedication, professionalism and excellence within the public service.
“I want to reveal for the first time that we are working with Mr. President. He has asked me to look at what we can do, especially for those within the information sector, so that we can improve their welfare package,” Idris said.
The Minister described civil servants as the backbone of government, noting that the Ministry plays a critical role in promoting national unity, communicating government policies and strengthening public trust through accurate information.

He stressed that information should be used to promote national cohesion, development and responsible citizenship rather than division.
Idris also highlighted some of the administration’s achievements, including ongoing economic reforms, improved government revenue, increased foreign reserves, infrastructure development, expanded access to higher education through the Nigerian Education Loan Fund (NELFUND), and continued efforts to tackle insecurity in partnership with security agencies.
He urged public servants to uphold professionalism, integrity and commitment to duty, emphasizing that national development depends on an efficient and dedicated civil service.
The Minister further praised the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, Dr. Binyerem C. Ukaire, for her leadership and commitment to improving staff welfare and institutional performance.
In her remarks, Dr. Ukaire described civil servants as the unseen drivers of governance whose daily efforts sustain government operations and improve service delivery.
She encouraged staff members to remain committed to the values of efficiency, integrity, productivity and citizen-focused service as outlined in the Federal Civil Service Strategy and Implementation Plan (FCSSIP).
The Civil Service Week celebration brought together directors, senior management officials and staff of the Ministry to recognise the contributions of public servants to national development.
