The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN), Kano Sub-Region, has hosted science students from Government Girls Secondary School (GGSS), Dukawuya, Kano, on an educational excursion to its Kumbotso 330/132kV Transmission Substation.
The excursion, held on August 4, 2026, gave the students an opportunity to gain practical knowledge of electricity transmission and connect what they learn in the classroom with real-world applications.
During the visit, TCN engineers took the students through various aspects of electricity transmission operations, explaining the functions of major substation equipment, control room activities and safety procedures within the transmission network.
The students also interacted with the engineers, asking questions and gaining first-hand insight into how electricity is transmitted through Nigeria’s power infrastructure.
The practical exposure is expected to strengthen the students’ understanding of the country’s electricity transmission system while encouraging greater interest in science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) fields.
The initiative also highlights the importance of collaboration between educational institutions and industry in preparing young people for careers in technical and engineering professions.
According to TCN, the programme reflects its commitment to promoting technical knowledge, engineering excellence and capacity development among young Nigerians.
The company said providing students with opportunities to observe real-world power transmission operations would help inspire the next generation of engineers and technical professionals needed to support the growth and sustainability of Nigeria’s power sector.
