The Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) has intensified efforts to protect its digital infrastructure and sensitive information through a cybersecurity awareness seminar aimed at strengthening institutional security and tackling emerging cyber threats.
The 2026 Cybersecurity Awareness Seminar, organised by the Service’s ICT and Cybersecurity Directorate, was held on Thursday, October 29, at the NIS Headquarters in Abuja.
The seminar brought together cybersecurity experts and representatives of key government institutions to discuss strategies for protecting critical digital infrastructure, preventing cybercrime and improving data protection practices.
Speaking at the event, the Comptroller-General of Immigration, Kemi Nanna Nandap, represented by the Deputy Comptroller-General, Finance and Accounts, DCG SB Daura, described cybersecurity as essential to protecting the Service’s digital operations, sensitive information and national security interests.
She stressed that cybersecurity was a collective responsibility, urging officers to remain vigilant, comply with established security procedures and promptly report suspicious digital activities.
The Comptroller-General also emphasised the need for continuous training, institutional collaboration and proactive measures to address evolving cybersecurity threats.

Technical presentations at the seminar featured resource persons from the Department of State Services (DSS), United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC), Nigeria Data Protection Commission (NDPC) and National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA).
Discussions focused on inter-agency cooperation in protecting critical infrastructure, combating cybercrime through law enforcement and international partnerships, safeguarding personal data and managing human-related cybersecurity risks in the digital workplace.
A plenary session facilitated by Galaxy Backbone Limited further examined practical strategies for securing critical government systems through collaboration and improved cybersecurity practices.
The session also provided participants with an opportunity to share experiences and explore practical solutions to strengthen the Service’s digital security framework.
The Nigeria Immigration Service reaffirmed its commitment to building a cyber-resilient institution through continuous capacity development, technological improvements, inter-agency cooperation and adherence to international best practices.
The initiative is expected to strengthen the protection of the Service’s digital assets and sensitive information while supporting its responsibilities in border security and migration management.
As government institutions increasingly depend on digital platforms, strengthening cybersecurity remains critical to protecting public information and safeguarding national security.
