The Director-General of the Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet), Professor Charles Anosike, has received a fellowship award from the Quality Improvement Institute of Nigeria (QIIN) in recognition of his leadership and the agency’s commitment to quality management and institutional excellence.

The award, Fellow of the Quality Improvement Institute of Nigeria (FQIIN), was presented to Anosike on Friday, November 6, 2026, at NiMet’s headquarters in Abuja.

The presentation was made by the President and Chief Executive Officer of QIIN, Dr Stephen S. Hati.

The recognition highlights NiMet’s sustained investment in quality management over more than a decade, particularly its continuous pursuit of ISO certification and recertification and the expansion of services covered by its quality management standards.

These efforts reflect the agency’s commitment to improving operational efficiency, meeting international standards and strengthening the quality of weather, climate and water-related services delivered to Nigerians.

During the visit, officials from both organisations also discussed opportunities to strengthen their institutional relationship through collaboration in quality management, professional training, research, capacity development and organisational performance.

A major outcome of the discussions was a proposal to formalise the partnership through a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), which would provide a framework for sustained cooperation, knowledge exchange and professional development.

Speaking after receiving the award, Anosike thanked QIIN for the recognition and reaffirmed NiMet’s commitment to quality assurance, institutional innovation and continuous improvement.

He stressed that compliance with internationally recognised standards remains important to strengthening the agency’s ability to provide reliable and effective meteorological services.

The proposed partnership is expected to create opportunities for both institutions to share expertise, promote best practices and strengthen organisational capacity.

The recognition further highlights NiMet’s efforts to maintain international quality standards in delivering services that support public safety, national development and Nigeria’s socio-economic growth.
