The Director-General of the Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet), Professor Charles Anosike, has received the Changemaker Climate Leadership Award at the DTN@100 Times Heroes Awards in recognition of his contributions to meteorological development and climate resilience in Nigeria.
The award was presented on November 3, 2026, at Harbour Point, Victoria Island, Lagos, during activities marking the centenary celebration of The Daily Times of Nigeria.
The recognition highlights Anosike’s leadership in driving institutional reforms, modernising NiMet’s operations and promoting the use of weather and climate information to support national development.
Since his appointment by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in December 2023, Anosike has pursued reforms aimed at strengthening the agency’s scientific capacity, improving service delivery and making meteorological information more useful to critical sectors of the economy.
Under his leadership, NiMet has continued efforts to improve weather and climate intelligence for aviation, agriculture, disaster risk management and climate adaptation.
The award also acknowledges the agency’s growing role in promoting climate resilience, early warning systems and the use of scientific information in development planning.
Reliable weather forecasts and climate information are increasingly important in helping governments, businesses and communities prepare for extreme weather events, reduce disaster risks and protect livelihoods.

The recognition at the Daily Times centenary celebration underscores the importance of effective meteorological institutions in addressing climate variability and supporting sustainable economic growth.
For NiMet, the award reinforces its commitment to providing timely, accurate and reliable weather and climate information to protect lives, support economic activities and strengthen national preparedness.
The agency said it would continue advancing meteorological services beyond conventional weather forecasting by providing actionable information that supports decision-making, safeguards livelihoods and contributes to Nigeria’s development.
