The United States Mission in Nigeria has recognised Nigerian-American robotics expert, Dr. Osato Osemwengie, for his outstanding contributions to robotics, drone technology, and scientific innovation.
In a post shared across its official social media platforms, the U.S. Mission described Osemwengie as the “U.S. Drone Builder,” praising his pioneering work in autonomous systems, robotics research, and lifelong learning.
According to the Mission, Dr. Osemwengie’s academic journey, which includes multiple PhDs and master’s degrees, reflects innovation, curiosity, and academic excellence.
The Nigerian-American professor and researcher is widely known for his work in drone technology, artificial intelligence, and applied robotics. His research focuses on developing intelligent systems used in defense, environmental monitoring, disaster response, and other emerging technological fields.

The U.S. Mission said the recognition forms part of efforts to spotlight Nigerian-Americans making significant contributions in science, technology, education, and innovation while strengthening ties between Nigeria and the United States.
Describing his story as inspiring, the Mission noted that Osemwengie’s achievements demonstrate what is possible when talent is supported by opportunity and education.
Experts and colleagues in the technology sector describe his work as highly interdisciplinary, combining robotics, mechanical systems, artificial intelligence, and data analytics to improve drone capabilities and practical applications.
The recognition comes at a time when interest in drone technology and innovation continues to grow in Nigeria, particularly across agriculture, logistics, security, and environmental management sectors.
The U.S. Mission also encouraged young Nigerians to embrace lifelong learning and pursue careers in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM), using Dr. Osemwengie’s journey as a model of global impact through education and innovation.
