Abuja — The Federal Government of Nigeria has strongly condemned the killing of Mali’s Defence Minister, Lieutenant General Sadio Camara, following terrorist attacks on April 25, 2025.I

n a statement issued on Tuesday in Abuja by Kimiebi Imomotimi Ebienfa, spokesperson of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the government described the incident as tragic and deeply troubling.Nigeria extended its heartfelt condolences to the family of the late minister, the Malian Armed Forces, and the government and people of Mali, noting that the loss comes at a critical time in the country’s history.

The statement highlighted the long-standing relationship between Nigeria and Mali, rooted in shared values of brotherhood, resilience, and African unity, while reaffirming Nigeria’s solidarity with Mali during this difficult period.

The Federal Government also condemned the recent wave of terrorist attacks in Mali, which have resulted in significant loss of lives and destruction of property, warning that such acts threaten national stability and social cohesion.

According to the statement, terrorism undermines the principles of peace, dignity, and coexistence necessary for development, and must be confronted as a common enemy through collective action.Nigeria called for stronger international cooperation in the fight against terrorism, emphasizing the need for unity, sustained collaboration, and a shared commitment to humanity.

The government further reiterated its support for Mali’s efforts to safeguard its sovereignty, maintain territorial integrity, and restore lasting peace and security, pledging continued partnership through regional and global frameworks. It concluded by urging greater global solidarity, stressing that peace in one nation is intrinsically linked to peace everywhere.
