Nigeria’s Ambassador-Designate to the Republic of Mali, Ambassador Geoffrey Ijomah David Chima, has presented copies of his Letters of Credence to Mali’s Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Abdoulaye Diop.
The presentation took place on Thursday, August 6, 2026, in Bamako, Mali, marking a significant step in the commencement of Ambassador Chima’s diplomatic assignment in the country.
The protocol formalities were followed by bilateral discussions focused on strengthening cooperation between Nigeria and Mali in areas of mutual interest.
During the discussions, both sides underscored the importance of revitalising diplomatic consultation mechanisms to promote stronger and mutually beneficial South-South cooperation.
The talks also addressed the evolving geopolitical situation in the West African sub-region, with particular attention given to security challenges and the fight against terrorism.
Both sides emphasised the need for greater solidarity, constructive political dialogue and mutual trust among countries in the region as part of efforts to effectively tackle shared security and development challenges.
The engagement reflects Nigeria’s continued commitment to strengthening diplomatic relations with Mali and promoting regional cooperation in addressing common challenges.
