The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has made the preliminary register of voters for the 2027 general election available online following public calls for easier access to the document.
The commission said the move would allow more Nigerians to check their voter information and strengthen transparency ahead of the next general election.
In a statement issued on Monday, October 26, 2026, the Chairman of INEC’s Information and Voter Education Committee, Mohammed Kudu Haruna, said the register could now be accessed through the commission’s online platform.
The development follows the physical display of the preliminary register across Registration Areas nationwide from October 9 to October 15, 2026.
INEC said the exercise was conducted in line with Section 19 of the Electoral Act, 2026, allowing registered voters to examine their details and submit claims or objections where necessary.
However, following requests from Nigerians and other stakeholders for online access, the commission decided to publish the same preliminary register on its website.
In the statement, INEC said the additional measure was intended to improve accessibility, transparency and public confidence in the electoral process.

How to Check the Preliminary Voters Register
Registered voters can visit display.inecnigeria.org to access the preliminary register and check their details.
The online publication complements the physical display already conducted nationwide. It does not replace the earlier exercise or mean that the final register has already been published.
INEC said it was still processing claims and objections arising from the physical display in accordance with the Electoral Act, 2026.
The commission explained that the process would help prepare the final register for certification and publication.
When Will INEC Publish the Final Register?
INEC has fixed December 15, 2026, for the certification and publication of the Final Register of Voters for the 2027 general election.
The preliminary register provides an opportunity for registered voters to identify possible errors or discrepancies in their information before the final register is certified.
Voters are therefore encouraged to check their details and follow the commission’s official guidance on raising any concerns about their registration information.
INEC thanked Nigerians and other stakeholders for their interest in the electoral process, reaffirming its commitment to transparency and the conduct of credible elections.
As preparations for the 2027 general election continue, the online publication offers voters another opportunity to participate in the verification process ahead of the final register’s release.
