The Federal Ministry of Education has distanced itself from an association operating as the “National Parent-Teacher Association (PTA)” of the Federal Unity Colleges, saying the group is neither recognised nor authorised to speak on behalf of the colleges or their individual PTAs.
In a statement issued on September 21, 2026, the Ministry said the association does not represent the individual PTAs across the 117 Federal Unity Colleges in Nigeria.
According to the Ministry, it has neither recognised nor authorised the association to issue statements, directives, appeals or other communications on behalf of the colleges, parents, guardians or students.
The Ministry therefore advised parents, guardians and members of the public to disregard communications issued by the association.
It urged parents to rely only on official information from the Federal Ministry of Education and the management of their respective Federal Unity Colleges on matters relating to their children, wards and school activities.
The Ministry’s warning comes as the 2026/2027 academic session has commenced across the country.
The Minister of Education, Dr Maruf Tunji Alausa, CON, also appealed to parents and guardians to ensure that their children and wards are present in their respective Federal Unity Colleges as the new academic session gets underway.
Alausa, according to the statement, reaffirmed the Federal Government’s commitment to the effective administration of the Federal Unity Colleges and to providing students with a conducive learning environment.
The Ministry also said it would continue to support students in their academic development and overall wellbeing throughout the 2026/2027 academic session.
