📍Abuja | Media360Impact Report
The Federal Government has commenced the evacuation of Nigerian nationals from South Africa following renewed xenophobic attacks targeting foreign nationals in the country.

According to a statement issued by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the first batch of evacuees is scheduled to depart Oliver Tambo International Airport in Johannesburg on Wednesday night aboard an Air Peace flight.

The Ministry disclosed that the returnees are expected to arrive at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport in Lagos by 5:00 a.m. on Thursday.

The statement noted that the Federal Government has fully funded the evacuation exercise, assuring that all affected Nigerians would be repatriated free of charge.

It further explained that necessary reception and support arrangements have already been put in place by relevant Ministries, Departments and Agencies to assist the returnees upon arrival in Nigeria.

According to the Ministry, the evacuees will undergo documentation and profiling procedures before receiving the necessary support and assistance ahead of reunification with their families.

The statement reaffirmed the Federal Government’s commitment to the safety and welfare of Nigerians living abroad, particularly during emergencies affecting their security and wellbeing.

The statement was signed by Kimiebi Imomotimi Ebienfa, spokesperson of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Abuja.
