The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command has arrested a Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) officer for allegedly firing shots into the air during a confrontation with traders at Kubwa Market, Abuja.

The suspect, identified as Onoja Samuel, a Deputy Superintendent of Corps, was arrested on Wednesday, October 28, 2026, after police received a distress call reporting that a man armed with a pistol was shooting sporadically at the market.

According to a statement issued by the FCT Police Public Relations Officer, SP Josephine Adeh, the incident was reported to Kubwa Police Division at about 1:50 p.m.

Police operatives were immediately deployed to the scene, where they disarmed and arrested the suspect.

Preliminary investigations revealed that Samuel allegedly went to the market with a pistol following reports that some traders had assaulted his wife.

During an argument with the traders, he allegedly fired several shots into the air.

The police said a CZ pistol and 17 rounds of live 9mm ammunition were recovered during the arrest.

The suspect remains in police custody and is expected to be charged in court after investigations are concluded.
