Nigeria’s new Minister of Foreign Affairs, Bianca Odumegwu-Ojukwu, has expressed deep appreciation to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu following her appointment as the substantive head of the ministry.
Odumegwu-Ojukwu, who previously served as Minister of State for Foreign Affairs since assuming office on November 4, 2024, was elevated to the top position on April 29, 2026.
The announcement came during a dinner organised by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to conclude a three-day induction programme for Ambassadors and High Commissioners-designate, as well as their spouses.

The event also marked her first official engagement in her new capacity as substantive minister.
Addressing members of the diplomatic corps, ministry staff, and invited guests, the minister thanked President Tinubu for entrusting her with the role.
She called for collaboration among ambassadors, high commissioners-designate, and ministry personnel to strengthen Nigeria’s global image while safeguarding national interests.
In a statement shared on her X (formerly Twitter) account, Odumegwu-Ojukwu described the appointment as an honour and pledged her commitment to advancing Nigeria’s foreign policy objectives.

“I am truly honoured to step into this new position and wish to express my most profound appreciation to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu. I am humbled by your trust and confidence in my abilities,” she said.
She reaffirmed her dedication to promoting Nigeria’s 4D Foreign Policy Priorities under the Renewed Hope Agenda, as well as strengthening citizen-focused diplomacy.
The minister also assured Nigerians of her commitment to advancing the country’s interests on the global stage.
