In line with his people-centric leadership style, the Chief of Defence Staff (CDS), General Christopher Gwabin Musa, on Tuesday joined personnel of the Armed Forces of Nigeria (AFN) to break the Christian fast. The event, an initiative of the CDS, was designed to bring Christian and Muslim personnel together, encouraging unity, fostering a spirit of jointness, and strengthening bonds within the military community.
This was contained in a statement signed on 17th April 2025 by Brigadier General Tukur Gusau, Director Defence Information.
He stated that while speaking at the gathering, General Musa stressed the importance of sustaining such initiatives, noting that they help promote tolerance, camaraderie, and mutual respect among personnel. He highlighted the spiritual, health, and physical benefits of fasting, stating that the practice instills discipline, endurance, and a deeper connection with God qualities essential to effective military service.
The CDS used the opportunity to express gratitude to all members of the AFN for their sacrifices and dedication to duty despite the challenging security environment. He acknowledged the daunting nature of the tasks ahead and urged personnel to remain united, work collaboratively, and strive for greater success across all operational theatres nationwide.

General Musa also addressed the recent rise in the tempo of attacks, assuring that such developments would not diminish the Armed Forces’ resolve. He called on personnel to stay focused, resilient, and unwavering in their commitment to safeguarding the nation.
Furthermore, he commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for his steadfast support to the Armed Forces, particularly through the provision of critical resources and equipment required to combat threats to national security.
It is worth noting that similar joint fast-breaking events were held weekly during the Muslim fasting period, further reinforcing the spirit of unity among personnel across the Services and the Defence Headquarters. The latest event witnessed a strong turnout, with officers and men sharing joyful moments together in an atmosphere of brotherhood and solidarity.
