Senior officials have reaffirmed Nigeria’s commitment to integrating Artificial Intelligence (AI) into its foreign policy as part of efforts to strengthen digital diplomacy and expand the country’s influence in global digital governance.
Speaking at a seminar on digital diplomacy, Ambassador Janet Olisa Enikanolaiye urged participants to use the platform to develop practical strategies that would enhance Nigeria’s diplomatic capacity and improve its engagement in an increasingly digital global environment.
She expressed confidence that the discussions would produce actionable recommendations capable of modernising the country’s foreign policy tools, strengthening diplomatic engagement, and positioning Nigeria as a leading voice in digital diplomacy across Africa.
Enikanolaiye also commended the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Bianca Odumegwu-Ojukwu, for driving reforms aimed at preparing the Ministry to respond effectively to emerging global challenges shaped by technology and digital transformation.
She further acknowledged the support of the British High Commission in Abuja for partnering with the Ministry to organise the seminar, describing the collaboration as an important step toward innovation, capacity building, and stronger international cooperation.
Declaring the seminar open, Enikanolaiye reaffirmed the Ministry’s commitment to building a digitally skilled Foreign Service and expressed optimism that the conference would help shape a more responsive, technology-driven foreign policy that advances Nigeria’s strategic interests at both regional and global levels.
