Troops of the Nigerian Army, in collaboration with operatives of the Department of State Services (DSS), Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), and the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS), have arrested 46 suspected illegal immigrants during a coordinated security operation in Ogun State.
The operation, which began on June 11, 2026, was carried out following credible intelligence reports and targeted Ijebu Imushin, Ijebu Ilese and surrounding communities within the state.Security sources disclosed that preliminary investigations revealed the suspects had allegedly been living in the area for approximately six months without valid immigration documents.
During initial interrogation, the suspects reportedly identified themselves as merchants and workers associated with QNet, an online marketing platform involved in the sale of various products and services.A breakdown of those arrested showed that 18 were citizens of Burkina Faso, 23 were from Côte d’Ivoire, four were nationals of Togo, while one suspect was from Senegal.
The group comprised 36 males and 10 females.Military authorities confirmed that the suspects have been handed over to the Nigeria Immigration Service, Ogun State Command, for further investigation and necessary administrative procedures in accordance with Nigeria’s immigration laws.
Reacting to the successful operation, the Commander of 35 Artillery Brigade, Brigadier General Friday Oguche Onu, commended the troops and other security agencies for their professionalism, vigilance and effective collaboration.He also urged residents to remain alert and report suspicious activities or movements within their communities to relevant security agencies.
According to military authorities, the operation underscores the commitment of the Nigerian Army and its security partners to combating illegal migration, strengthening internal security and safeguarding Nigeria’s national interests.
