The Zenith Labour Party (ZLP) has elected veteran politician Dan Nwanyanwu as its presidential candidate for the 2027 general election during the party’s national convention held in Abuja.

The convention featured speeches from party leaders, presentation of the certificate of return, and the acceptance speech of the presidential candidate, with strong emphasis on national unity, insecurity, democratic freedom, and political reforms.

Speaking at the event, party officials said the ZLP remains committed to operating within its constitution and principles of transparency, insisting that the party is not driven by transactional politics but by the collective interest of Nigerians.

Leaders of the party also raised concerns over alleged interference in opposition political parties and warned that weakening multi-party democracy could damage the credibility of future elections in Nigeria.

The convention further highlighted ongoing legal battles involving political parties and electoral matters, with party leaders accusing some government officials of attempting to suppress opposition voices through the courts.

In his acceptance speech, Dan Nwanyanwu thanked party delegates for the confidence reposed in him and pledged to prioritize national unity, security, and inclusive governance if elected president in 2027.

According to him, Nigeria’s unity has suffered serious setbacks over the years due to ethnic and religious divisions, adding that his administration would focus on rebuilding trust among citizens and promoting patriotism.

On insecurity, the ZLP presidential candidate criticized the Federal Government’s handling of terrorism, banditry, and insurgency, promising decisive action against criminal groups across the country.

Nwanyanwu also proposed reforms to Nigeria’s policing system, including the establishment of federal, state, and community policing structures to strengthen security operations nationwide.

The convention ended with party stakeholders expressing optimism that the ZLP would provide Nigerians with an alternative political platform ahead of the 2027 presidential election.
