The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) says three transmission towers have collapsed along the Karu-Keffi-Akwanga 132kV transmission line corridor, affecting electricity supply from the Keffi and Akwanga transmission substations.
TCN said the incident occurred at about 4:06 p.m. on Wednesday, October 7, 2026, during rainy and windy conditions.
According to the company, the 132kV Karu-Keffi-Akwanga Single Circuit Transmission Line tripped on overcurrent relay protection, prompting investigations that revealed the collapse of Towers T78, T79 and T80.
TCN said the affected section was immediately isolated as a safety measure.

As a result, all 33kV outgoing feeders at the 132/33kV Keffi and 132/33kV Akwanga Transmission Substations are currently unavailable.
The company said no load can be nominated on the affected feeders until further notice.
TCN engineers are currently assessing the extent of the damage and determining the materials and other requirements needed to begin restoration work.
The transmission company expressed regret over the inconvenience the incident may cause electricity customers supplied by the affected substations.
It assured customers that efforts are underway to complete the necessary repairs as quickly as possible and restore bulk power supply.
TCN also said it would continue to provide updates as restoration activities progress.
