The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) has successfully prevented an attempted act of vandalism at its 330/132kV transmission substation in Bauchi State, recovering critical transmission tower components and a vehicle believed to have been used by the suspects.

In a statement issued by the General Manager, Public Affairs, Ndidi Mbah, the incident occurred at about 9:34 p.m. on Friday, July 24, 2026.
According to the statement, security personnel stationed at the facility intercepted individuals attempting to remove vital transmission tower components from the substation.

The suspects reportedly abandoned the operation and fled immediately after noticing the presence of the security guards.

A subsequent inspection of the scene led to the recovery of 12 transmission tower angle irons, a heavy-duty metal measuring scale, and a white pickup truck suspected to have been used during the attempted theft.

TCN said all recovered items, including the vehicle, have been handed over to the Railway Division Police Station in Bauchi for further investigation.

The company confirmed that no transmission equipment was stolen or damaged during the incident, and no injuries were recorded.
Commending the swift action of its security personnel, TCN said their vigilance prevented what could have disrupted critical power transmission infrastructure.

The company also appealed to residents and host communities to remain vigilant and promptly report suspicious activities around electricity installations to security agencies or the nearest TCN office to help protect the nation’s power infrastructure.
