The Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet) has forecast widespread thunderstorms and moderate rainfall across several parts of Nigeria from Tuesday, June 9, to Thursday, June 11, 2026.
In a three-day weather outlook issued by the agency’s Central Forecast Office on Monday, NiMet advised residents, motorists, airline operators and other stakeholders to take necessary precautions as unstable weather conditions are expected nationwide.
According to the forecast, northern states will experience mostly sunny weather with patches of clouds, alongside isolated morning thunderstorms and rainfall in some areas.
The agency said thunderstorms accompanied by moderate rainfall are expected during the afternoon and evening hours in parts of Kano, Jigawa, Borno, Kaduna, Gombe, Bauchi, Adamawa, Taraba, Kebbi, Zamfara, Yobe and Katsina states throughout the forecast period.

In the North-Central region, cloudy weather with intervals of sunshine is expected, while thunderstorms and moderate rainfall are likely to affect the Federal Capital Territory, Nasarawa, Niger, Kwara, Plateau, Benue and Kogi states, especially later in the day.
NiMet also predicted predominantly cloudy conditions across southern Nigeria, with isolated morning showers expected in parts of Rivers, Lagos, Akwa Ibom, Cross River and other coastal states.
The agency noted that thunderstorms and moderate rainfall would become more widespread across the southern region as the day progresses during the three-day period.
For Thursday, NiMet projected increased thunderstorm activity in parts of Ogun, Osun, Ondo, Enugu, Bayelsa, Delta, Lagos, Cross River, Rivers and Akwa Ibom states during the morning hours.
Moderate rainfall is also expected to extend to parts of Ebonyi, Imo, Abia and Edo states later in the day.
NiMet warned that strong winds could precede thunderstorms in affected areas and urged residents to secure loose objects to avoid damage.
Motorists were advised not to drive during heavy rainfall because of poor visibility and increased road safety risks.
The agency also encouraged residents to disconnect electrical appliances during thunderstorms and avoid taking shelter under tall trees due to the possibility of falling branches and collapsing trees during severe weather conditions.
Airline operators were advised to obtain airport-specific weather reports to support safe flight planning and operations.
NiMet further urged Nigerians to stay updated through its regular weather forecasts and advisories as weather conditions continue to evolve across the country.
