The Embassy of Nigeria in Hungary has intensified efforts to expand educational opportunities for Nigerian youths following a visit to the University of Dunaújváros (DUE) to explore scholarship opportunities and strengthen academic cooperation.
The visit formed part of the embassy’s ongoing school visitation and scholarship drive focused on the Stipendium Hungaricum programme, which provides opportunities for international students to pursue higher education in Hungary.
The Nigerian delegation was led by Ambassador Abasi Braimah Ogwime and included the embassy’s Social Secretary, Dr Erika Madarász, and Daniel Etawo.
They were received by the university’s management team led by the Vice-Rector for Institutional Development and General Affairs, Dr Mónika Rajcsányi-Molnár.
Other university officials at the meeting included the Vice-Rector for Education, Dr László Balázs; Director of International Relations, Kitti Szabó; Director of Strategic Relations, József Fritz; and Social Relations Officer, Csaba Papp.
During the meeting, the university management briefed the Nigerian delegation on its international degree programmes, available Stipendium Hungaricum scholarship opportunities, and support services for international students.
The discussions provided an opportunity for both sides to explore ways of improving access to higher education and helping Nigerian students benefit from academic opportunities in Hungary.
The delegation also toured the university’s facilities, including its laboratories, where members interacted with lecturers and Nigerian students to learn more about the institution’s academic environment and student experiences.
11 Nigerians Currently Studying at DUE
According to the university, 11 Nigerian students are currently enrolled at the University of Dunaújváros, including six beneficiaries of the Stipendium Hungaricum scholarship programme.

Most of the Nigerian students are studying Computer Engineering, while others are pursuing degrees in Business Administration and Management, as well as Communication and Media Science.
The students’ presence at the institution highlights the existing educational links between Nigeria and Hungary and the potential for further cooperation in higher education.
The embassy said the visit was part of its broader efforts to strengthen academic relations and secure more educational and training opportunities for Nigerian youths through Hungary’s scholarship programmes.
The initiative is expected to support continued engagement between Nigerian diplomatic representatives and Hungarian educational institutions as more opportunities are explored for Nigerian students seeking international education.
For Nigerian students interested in studying abroad, scholarship programmes such as Stipendium Hungaricum can provide opportunities to access international academic programmes, subject to the scheme’s eligibility requirements and application procedures.
