The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Federal Republic of Nigeria has announced the commemoration of the 50th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Nigeria and the United Mexican States.
Established on April 14, 1976, relations between both countries have grown over the past five decades into a stable and mutually beneficial partnership founded on respect for sovereignty, non-interference, and shared commitment to international peace and development.
In a statement signed and issued by the spokesperson of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Kimiebi Imomotimi Ebienfa, the Ministry reaffirmed Nigeria’s commitment to strengthening diplomatic ties with Mexico
Both nations have maintained consistent cooperation at bilateral and multilateral levels, including within the United Nations system.
Bilateral engagement has expanded across key sectors such as trade and investment, energy, agriculture, education, culture, and technical cooperation. In recent years, both countries have intensified efforts to strengthen economic diplomacy through increased private sector involvement, diversification of trade, and exploration of emerging opportunities, including renewable energy and industrial development.

The Nigerian government noted with satisfaction the steady progress in relations and highlighted the importance of diplomatic dialogue, institutional collaboration, and people-to-people exchanges in strengthening the partnership.
These efforts, it said, continue to reflect shared aspirations for inclusive growth, sustainable development, and enhanced South-South cooperation.
As both nations mark this golden jubilee, Nigeria reaffirmed its commitment to deepening bilateral relations through high-level engagements, stronger institutional frameworks, and strategic cooperation in areas of mutual interest.
The Ministry congratulated both governments and peoples on the milestone and expressed confidence that the next phase of relations will deliver greater benefits.
