The Chief of the Air Staff (CAS), Nigerian Air Force (NAF), began a three-day operational visit to the Logistics Command in Lagos on February 2, 2026, to evaluate the readiness of personnel, equipment, and critical facilities supporting ongoing counter-insurgency and counter-terrorism operations nationwide.

The visit highlighted the central role of logistics in modern air warfare, where sustained airpower projection relies on an efficient supply chain, effective maintenance systems, and a motivated workforce. The CAS stressed that operational success is closely tied to logistics capacity, noting that the tempo and reach of NAF missions across the country depend on a resilient logistics architecture.

As part of the visit, the CAS paid a courtesy call on Lagos State Governor, Mr. Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu, reaffirming the strategic partnership between the Nigerian Air Force and the Lagos State Government. He described Lagos as critical to the operational framework of the Service, hosting the Logistics Command and several key NAF establishments that support nationwide air operations.

“Lagos remains central to our capacity to project airpower across Nigeria. The efficiency of our operations is closely linked to the stability, cooperation, and support we continue to receive within the state,” the CAS said, while commending the Governor’s commitment to infrastructure development and security.

Governor Sanwo-Olu, in response, reiterated Lagos State’s commitment to working closely with the Armed Forces, noting that security is essential to the state’s economic growth and social stability. He pledged continued collaboration with the NAF and other security agencies to safeguard the state’s strategic importance.

The CAS also acknowledged ongoing synergy between the NAF and Lagos State under Operation MESA, where air surveillance and intelligence capabilities complement the efforts of other security agencies to strengthen the state’s security architecture.

During the commissioning of new infrastructure at the 055 NAF Camp, Legico Barracks, the CAS reaffirmed that personnel welfare is a key pillar of operational readiness. He noted that a motivated force is fundamental to mission success and that the newly completed projects reflect the Service’s commitment to improving living standards for its personnel.

The commissioned projects include two blocks of 24 two-bedroom flats, a block of 40 one-bedroom flats, and a purpose-built sports complex aimed at promoting fitness and wellbeing. The CAS described the facilities as a significant upgrade to traditional barracks standards, adding that adequate housing helps reduce welfare pressures and allows personnel to focus on their operational duties.

He commended his predecessor, Air Marshal HB Abubakar (rtd), for initiating the project and urged personnel to maintain the facilities with discipline and responsibility.

The CAS expressed appreciation to the Federal Government and the National Assembly for their support, thanking President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for his continued backing of the Nigerian Air Force. He charged officers, airmen, and airwomen to remain disciplined representatives of the Service and to maintain positive relationships with host communities and other security agencies.

He noted that the visit reflects a deliberate integration of logistics readiness, welfare investment, and intergovernmental collaboration as key enablers of the NAF’s mission to remain agile, resilient, and fully prepared to defend national security.
