The Interim National Chairman of the Labour Party, Nenadi Usman, has participated in the party’s ward congress in Jere South Ward, Kagarko Local Government Area of Kaduna State, as the party commenced its nationwide grassroots exercise.
The congress, held jointly with Jere North Ward, saw party members peacefully elect new executives to oversee party affairs at the ward level.
Speaking after the exercise, Usman described the process as orderly and in line with party tradition, noting that the ward congress marks the first phase of a broader electoral process within the party.
She explained that the exercise will progress to local government and state congresses before culminating in a national convention scheduled to take place in Umuahia.

Usman also reaffirmed the party’s commitment to inclusivity, stressing the need for greater female participation in leadership positions, particularly within party structures.
The ward congresses were conducted across Nigeria’s 8,809 political wards, with elected executives expected to participate in the upcoming local government congresses slated for April 24, followed by state congresses on April 25, and the national convention on April 28.
She expressed satisfaction with reports from across the country, describing the exercise as largely peaceful and well-coordinated.
Usman further commended the Independent National Electoral Commission for its professionalism, noting the timely deployment of monitoring teams nationwide.
She urged party members to maintain the peaceful atmosphere observed during the ward congresses as the party moves into the next phases of the process.
