Greece manager Ivan Jovanović has praised Christos Tzolis after the forward played a decisive role in Greece’s dramatic 2–1 comeback victory over Serbia.
Greece fell behind in the fourth minute when Andrija Živković put Serbia ahead in Belgrade. However, Jovanović’s side continued to press for an equaliser and eventually got their reward through Tzolis.
The attacker levelled the match in the 74th minute after receiving the ball from Vangelis Pavlidis before producing a low diagonal finish that went in off the post.
His goal changed the momentum of the contest and gave Greece renewed belief that they could complete the comeback.
Tzolis Delivers When Greece Needed Him
Tzolis remained a constant threat despite Greece’s early setback, showing confidence in possession and looking for opportunities to attack the Serbian defence.
Greece had created several chances before the equaliser, including an effort that struck the woodwork, but Serbia goalkeeper Vanja Milinković-Savić also made important saves to keep the hosts ahead.
Tzolis eventually found the breakthrough, producing the moment Greece needed to get back into the game.
The equaliser was followed by a late winner from Anastasios Douvikas, completing Greece’s 2–1 comeback.
Jovanović Sees Positive Signs
For Jovanović, the result highlighted the character of his players.
Despite conceding early and playing away from home, Greece maintained their approach and continued creating opportunities rather than abandoning their attacking plan.
The performance also underlined the growing importance of Tzolis to the Greek national team.
The 24-year-old is part of a new generation of Greek players expected to play a major role in the team’s development, and his contribution in Belgrade provided another indication of his attacking influence.
Tzolis Faces Bigger Test Ahead
The victory gives Greece an encouraging start, but the team faces another difficult challenge against Germany.
That match will provide Jovanović and his players with an opportunity to test themselves against another of Europe’s major football nations.
Tzolis will again be expected to contribute in the final third after his decisive performance against Serbia.
For Greece, the priority will be to build on the confidence gained from the comeback victory while improving their consistency against stronger opposition.
Tzolis’ equaliser in Belgrade has given the forward an important platform, and Jovanović will hope the performance is the beginning of a sustained run of influential displays for both club and country.
