ABUJA — Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of First-Laurels Integrated Energy Ltd and First Laurels Property Market Ltd, Hon. Geoffrey Lokoyere, has described the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Chief Barrister Ezenwo Nyesom Wike, as a “political school” whose leadership style has inspired a new generation of Nigerian political actors beyond Rivers State.
In a reflective tribute titled “The Political School Called Nyesom Wike: How One Man’s Courage Inspired a Generation Beyond Rivers State,” Lokoyere said Wike’s greatest legacy may not only be his physical infrastructure projects but also the countless individuals whose lives and leadership philosophy have been shaped by his example.
According to him, while many leaders are remembered for winning elections or constructing roads and bridges, only a few leave behind a lasting legacy by inspiring people to embrace courage, conviction and purposeful leadership.
Lokoyere said Wike belongs to that rare class of leaders whose influence extends beyond political office and geographical boundaries.
Drawing from his personal experience, the Taraba State-born businessman and politician explained that although he is not from Rivers State, he closely followed Wike’s political career and became inspired by his courage, resilience and unwavering commitment to defending his convictions.
He noted that Wike consistently demonstrated the courage to take difficult positions, confront political challenges and speak openly on issues of national importance, even when doing so was unpopular.
According to Lokoyere, those qualities influenced his own political thinking and eventually contributed to his decision to leave the All Progressives Congress (APC) for the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
He described that decision as an embrace of a political philosophy built on conviction rather than convenience.
Lokoyere further argued that Wike represents a unique “school of leadership” where political strategy, resilience, loyalty, governance and effective administration are taught through practical example rather than classroom instruction.
He said many young politicians across Nigeria continue to learn from Wike’s approach to governance, leadership and public service.
Reflecting on Wike’s tenure as Governor of Rivers State, Lokoyere praised what he described as significant investments in infrastructure, education, healthcare, judicial reforms and urban renewal, adding that the former governor earned a reputation for translating public resources into visible development.
He also commended Wike’s performance as Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, saying his administration has continued to demonstrate a commitment to project delivery, execution and measurable results.
Beyond political achievements, Lokoyere maintained that Wike’s greatest contribution lies in the number of Nigerians he has inspired to pursue leadership founded on courage, integrity and service.
He said many people who may never have met the minister personally have nevertheless drawn valuable lessons from his public conduct and resilience.
“The true measure of leadership is not merely what a leader achieves personally. It is the number of people inspired to dream bigger, think deeper, serve better and lead courageously because of that leader’s example,” he stated.
Lokoyere concluded that history would remember Wike not only as one of Nigeria’s defining political figures but also as a builder of people, an inspiration to aspiring leaders and an enduring symbol of courage and conviction.
Describing the FCT Minister as “an institution,” “a movement” and “a school,” he expressed hope that Wike’s influence would continue to inspire future generations of leaders across Nigeria. :::
