The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) and the Sierra Leone Road Safety Authority (SLRSA) have signed a five-year Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) aimed at strengthening road safety collaboration, institutional capacity and knowledge sharing across West Africa.
The agreement was signed on Friday at the FRSC National Headquarters in Abuja and is expected to enhance cooperation in road safety management, research, vehicle administration, enforcement, data management and capacity building.
The partnership also seeks to support the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) by reducing road traffic crashes and fatalities across the ECOWAS sub-region.

Speaking at the signing ceremony, Executive Director of the Sierra Leone Road Safety Authority, James Bagie Bio, described the agreement as a major milestone in the relationship between both agencies.
He praised the Federal Road Safety Corps for its professionalism, operational excellence and technological advancement under the leadership of Corps Marshal Shehu Mohammed.
According to him, the Sierra Leone delegation was impressed by the FRSC’s best practices and is committed to ensuring that the agreement delivers practical results through effective implementation, institutional collaboration and regular evaluation.
“This MoU will not gather dust on the shelf,” Bio said, assuring that Sierra Leone would work closely with the FRSC to achieve measurable improvements in road safety.
Also speaking, Sierra Leone’s Deputy High Commissioner to Nigeria and Deputy Head of Mission to ECOWAS, Major General (Rtd.) Dauda Alpha, commended the transformation of the FRSC, describing the Corps as a model for road safety administration on the African continent.

He said the partnership would further strengthen regional integration and deepen cooperation aimed at protecting lives and promoting safer roads across West Africa.
The agreement represents another step in the FRSC’s efforts to expand international partnerships and reinforce its role in advancing road safety across Africa through collaboration, innovation and shared responsibility.
