Nigeria’s Ambassador to the State of Qatar, Professor Mahmood Yakubu, has officially presented his Letter of Credence to His Highness Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al-Thani, Amir of the State of Qatar, marking the formal commencement of his diplomatic assignment in the Gulf nation.

The presentation ceremony took place at the Amiri Diwan on Thursday, July 2, 2026, and was conducted with full diplomatic honours, including the inspection of a Guard of Honour.

Following the ceremony, the Amir granted Ambassador Yakubu a private audience, during which he warmly welcomed the Nigerian envoy and reaffirmed the longstanding cordial relationship between Nigeria and Qatar.

His Highness recalled previous high-level engagements between both countries and reiterated Qatar’s commitment to strengthening bilateral cooperation across areas of mutual interest.

During the meeting, Ambassador Yakubu conveyed Nigeria’s condolences over the recent accident at Ras Laffan Industrial City. He also reaffirmed the Federal Government’s commitment to expanding collaboration with Qatar in trade, investment, education, security and humanitarian affairs.

The engagement underscores the shared commitment of both nations to deepen diplomatic relations and explore new opportunities for strategic partnership and economic cooperation.
