Abuja | Media360Impact Report

The Nigeria Police Force has unveiled a three-day programme to mark the 2026 International Youth Day, with a focus on strengthening Police–Youth partnerships and tackling political thuggery, misinformation and other emerging threats affecting young Nigerians.

The programme is scheduled to hold from August 20 to 22, 2026, at the Nigeria Police Resource Centre, Jabi, Abuja, with corresponding activities expected to take place across Police Zonal and State Commands nationwide.

Themed “Different Contexts, Common Aspirations,” in line with the United Nations International Youth Day theme, the initiative is being positioned by the Police as a preventive policing programme designed to engage young people in building safer, peaceful and prosperous communities.

According to the Nigeria Police Force, the three-day programme will feature youth leadership dialogues, Police–Youth engagement sessions, panel discussions, innovation and entrepreneurship showcases, a peace and security walkathon, novelty sporting activities and a nationwide tree-planting initiative.

The tree-planting campaign, tagged “Plant Peace. Grow Nigeria. Secure the Future,” is expected to promote environmental responsibility alongside peacebuilding and community security.

The programme will also include youth honours and awards, while a new publication titled Esteemed Youths: A National Youth Reorientation Resource will be launched on August 22.

A major component of the programme will be the launch of two nationwide youth reorientation campaigns addressing political violence and digital misinformation.

The first campaign, “My Future Is Greater Than Political and Digital Thuggery,” is aimed at discouraging political violence and electoral thuggery while warning against the manipulation of young people through digital platforms.

The second campaign, “Think Before You Click. Verify Before You Share,” will promote responsible digital citizenship and encourage young Nigerians to verify information before sharing it.

The Police said the campaign will also raise awareness about misinformation, disinformation, cyberbullying and the misuse of emerging technologies.

The Force has invited Ministries, Departments and Agencies, development partners, diplomatic missions, youth organisations, educational institutions, civil society groups, faith-based organisations, private-sector stakeholders and members of the public to participate in the initiative.

Interested participants can register through the official programme portal.

The Nigeria Police Force said the initiative reflects its commitment to preventive policing through strategic engagement with young Nigerians.

The Force further stressed that providing young people with appropriate values, opportunities and leadership platforms remains essential to building a peaceful, secure and prosperous Nigeria.

The statement was signed by the Force Public Relations Officer, CSP Ani Iniedu, on August 9, 2026, on behalf of the Force Headquarters, Abuja.
