The Corps Marshal of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Shehu Mohammed, has felicitated with Muslims across Nigeria on the occasion of the Eid-el-Kabir celebration, urging citizens to prioritise safety and responsible conduct on the roads during the festive period.
In a statement issued in Abuja, the FRSC boss commended the Muslim faithful for their devotion, sacrifice, discipline and commitment to the teachings of Islam, encouraging them to sustain the virtues of patience, obedience, love and peaceful coexistence associated with the sacred season.
According to him, the essence of Eid-el-Kabir, which symbolises sacrifice, submission and compassion for humanity, reflects the same values required to maintain safety and orderliness on the nation’s highways.
Shehu Mohammed noted that many road traffic crashes are preventable when motorists and other road users exercise patience, caution and respect for traffic regulations.
He therefore advised motorists, passengers, pedestrians and all road users to celebrate responsibly by avoiding speeding, dangerous overtaking, overloading, drunk driving, route violations and other unsafe practices capable of endangering lives and property.
The Corps Marshal assured Nigerians that the FRSC remains committed to ensuring safer roads nationwide through intensified patrols, strategic deployment of personnel, prompt rescue operations and sustained collaboration with relevant stakeholders.
He also appealed to members of the public to support the Corps by reporting crashes, road obstructions and emergencies through the FRSC toll-free emergency number 122 and the National Traffic Radio platform on 107.1 FM for swift response and lifesaving interventions.
While wishing Nigerians a peaceful, joyous and crash-free Eid-el-Kabir celebration, the FRSC Corps Marshal urged citizens to use the occasion to promote unity, tolerance, national harmony and collective responsibility towards building a safer society.
The statement was signed by the Corps Public Education Officer, Deputy Corps Commander Osondu Ohaeri.
