The Federal Government has launched the Nigeria Agricultural Intelligence Platform (NAIP), a transformative four-year roadmap designed to revolutionize the country’s agricultural sector through digital innovation, sustainable financing, and youth empowerment.

Speaking at the launch in Abuja, the Minister of Agriculture and Food Security, Senator Abubakar Kyari, represented by Mr. Yerima Ubah, Director of the Federal Department of Horticulture, described NAIP as a bold step toward modernizing Nigeria’s agriculture and positioning it as a key driver of economic growth and food security.

Kyari emphasized that agriculture remains the backbone of Nigeria’s economy and that adopting innovation and technology is crucial for achieving national food sufficiency. He noted that the NAIP initiative aligns with the objectives of the National Agricultural Technology and Innovation Policy (NATIP), which focuses on knowledge dissemination, research advancement, technology deployment, and the promotion of youth-led agripreneurship.

According to the minister, the platform will integrate seamlessly with existing government programs such as the National Agricultural Growth Scheme, fertilizer distribution initiatives, and climate-smart agriculture efforts, thereby amplifying impact across the agricultural value chain.

In his remarks, the Executive Secretary of the Agricultural Research Council of Nigeria (ARCN), Dr. Adamu Abubakar Dabban, described NAIP as a groundbreaking project developed in partnership with PIXELS Solutions Limited, under the supervision of the Federal Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security (FMAFS).

Dr. Dabban explained that the platform is designed to address long-standing challenges in Nigerian agriculture, including reliance on rain-fed farming, poor access to quality inputs, and limited extension services. He added that NAIP would promote a people-centered, technology-driven agricultural system that enhances productivity, creates sustainable jobs, and strengthens national food security.

A detailed walkthrough of the NAIP system features and benefits was delivered by Dr. Aliyu Shuaibu Magudu, Director of Planning, Research, and Statistics at ARCN, who highlighted the platform’s structure and operational framework.

According to Dr. Magudu, NAIP is built on a robust digital infrastructure that integrates data analytics, artificial intelligence, and geospatial mapping to support informed decision-making across the agricultural value chain. He explained that the system enables real-time data collection and analysis from farms, weather stations, and markets providing policymakers, researchers, and farmers with actionable insights to improve productivity and resilience.

He noted that the platform features interactive dashboards, farmer databases, e-extension modules, and digital advisory tools, all designed to enhance efficiency, reduce wastage, and promote sustainable practices. Dr. Magudu further emphasized that NAIP would serve as a national repository of agricultural intelligence, enabling evidence-based policy formulation and fostering stronger collaboration among government institutions, private sector players, and development partners.

“Through this platform, we are creating a digital ecosystem where data drives decisions, innovation drives growth, and technology bridges the gap between research and practice,” Dr. Magudu stated.

Key features of NAIP include:

  • Establishing digital knowledge hubs to connect farmers, researchers, and policymakers;
  • Delivering AI-powered advisory services directly to farms;
  • Expanding access to mechanization and smart agricultural tools; and
  • Deploying e-extension services nationwide.

Dr. Dabban also commended the visionary leadership of the Minister of Agriculture, whose unwavering support made the platform’s realization possible.

The launch of NAIP marks a significant milestone in Nigeria’s agricultural transformation agenda, reflecting strong collaboration between the government, private sector, and key stakeholders.

By harnessing artificial intelligence, digital tools, and youth leadership, NAIP is poised to boost productivity, strengthen food systems, raise farmers’ incomes, and advance Nigeria’s journey toward sustainable food security and agribusiness excellence.
