The Nigeria Police Force has intensified security deployments across Abuja ahead of the 2026 Eid-el-Kabir celebrations, assuring residents of a safe and peaceful festive period.
In a statement issued by the Police Public Relations Officer, Josephine Adeh, the Commissioner of Police, Ahmed Muhammed Sanusi, said comprehensive security measures had been activated across the Federal Capital Territory to prevent any security breaches before, during, and after the celebrations.

The Command also announced a joint security operation code-named “Operation Sweep FCT,” carried out in collaboration with sister security agencies, including the Department of State Services, Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, Federal Road Safety Corps, Nigerian Immigration Service, and the military.
According to the Command, security operations have been strategically divided across the FCT, with continuous patrols, surveillance, and rapid response teams deployed to deter criminal activity.
Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) units have also been directed to sweep worship centres, recreational areas, and other public spaces expected to host large gatherings during the festive period.
The police further disclosed that intelligence-led raids on criminal hideouts and drug hotspots are ongoing, stressing that all operations must comply with professional and legal standards.
As part of preparations, the Commissioner held a virtual security briefing with Divisional Police Officers (DPOs) and Divisional Crime Officers (DCOs), urging them to maintain vigilance, discipline, and professionalism.
He also emphasized increased visibility policing, quick response to distress calls, and stronger community engagement across the territory.
Residents were urged to remain security conscious and report suspicious activities through emergency lines provided by the Command, while officers were warned against unprofessional conduct.
The FCT Police Command reaffirmed its commitment to safeguarding lives and property and wished Muslim faithful and all residents a peaceful and joyous Eid-el-Kabir celebration.
