📍Abuja
The Diplomatic Correspondents Association of Nigeria (DICAN) has announced plans to host its second Diplomatic, Security, Trade, and Investment International Conference on May 20, 2026, at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Abuja.

The conference will focus on the growing global threat of Foreign Information Manipulation and Interference (FIMI), described as a modern form of hybrid warfare capable of undermining international relations, economic stability, and investor confidence.

Speaking ahead of the event, DICAN Chairman, Idehai Frederick, said the summit is designed to promote “collaborative truth” as a strategic response to disinformation and its impact on global security and trade.

“A secure information environment is essential for strong trade and investment. Misinformation can deter foreign investors and destabilise local markets,” he stated.

The summit is expected to bring together diplomats, intelligence experts, media professionals, and business leaders to strengthen cross-sector collaboration. It aims to develop coordinated strategies to counter state-sponsored disinformation, improve detection of hybrid threats, and promote responsible and accurate reporting.

Delivering the keynote address will be Nigeria’s Minister of Foreign Affairs and DICAN Grand Patron, Yusuf Maitama Tuggar. Other key participants include the European Union Ambassador to Nigeria and ECOWAS, Gautier Mignot, alongside security experts, regulators, and private sector leaders.

The upcoming conference builds on the success of DICAN’s inaugural international summit held in July 2025, which attracted participation from over 60 diplomatic missions, civil society organisations, and academic institutions.

Organisers say the 2026 edition will further strengthen global and national strategies against the weaponisation of false information, while reinforcing Nigeria’s position as a secure and attractive destination for trade and investment.
